{93.} 1631-ben* e várral biró birtokba (castri Bacza) s tartozékaiba Mikó Ferencz kincstárnok igtattatott, az igtatásnak Széchi Kata Gyulaffy Lászlóné és gyermekei Zsuzsa, Borbára és Samu ellene mondottak, azonban eredménye nem lett, mert birtokában maradt. 1636 márczius 20-án itt történt haláláig* fia Józsefre szállott, ki után neje szentmárton-macskási Macskássi Ilona örökölte, jóllehet Allia Samu a Farkas fia, Kékedi Zsigmond Kendi Krisztina férje e javakat igyekeztek megszerezni, de kezökbe nem kaphatták* mert az özvegytől Rákóczi kezére került 1638-ban s 1636 márcz. 26* Gyulaffy Sámuel írja Seredi Istvánnak, hogy Mikó József is meghalt, java a fejedelemre száll. Kékedi is szeretné megkapni Baczát, azon kell mesterkednünk, hogy kezemre keríthessem, az én eleim e birtokot kapták legelőször s ha fizetni kellene is érte, szívesen tenné s megadná az árát, a mennyivel Bethlen Gábor magához váltotta volt.
1642-ben* néhai Mikó Ferencz s fia után Rákóczi foglalta el, a fiscus birja.*
1650-ben* a fejedelem itteni birtokát az udvarházzal és tartozékaival együtt Kassai Ferencz, Miklós és Annának a Kassai itélőmester árváinak adja cserébe és a következő évben márczius 15-én Noszolyban kelt parancsa folytán be is igtatták.
1658-ban* Kolozsvári Kassai Ferencznek itt 6 adózó jobbágya volt. Végh, Tot, Jozsa jobbágycsaládok.
1666-ban* birtokosai királyfalvi Kassai Borbála nagymegyeri Keresztessi Samuné, a ki 1667-ben* anyjával Bánffy Sárával, előbb Kassai Ferencznével, most osztopáni Pernyeszi Zsigmondnéval egyezségre lép, mely mellett a többek közt a baczai jószágot tartozékaival együtt neki átengedte, midőn magát beigtatni akará, Kassai Anna Hidvégi Nemes Györgyné ellene mondott.

Jelenlegi birtokosa (1898): gróf Zichy Antal 622 h. 73 öl, gróf Kornis Miklós-féle birtok, vétel és Lénárd Sámuel.
Ősidők óta tisztán magyarok lakták e falut adataink szerint; 1603-ban s főleg 1658 és 66 közt* úgy elpusztult, hogy nem maradt benne több 5-6 léleknél. Előbb Básta, utóbb a török égette, gyilkoltatta és fűzte rabszíjra lakosait. Az oláhság 1711 után kezd beszivárogni, de számuk elenyésző. 1771-ben a róm. kath. hitet pártoló földesúr az ev. ref. egyház papjától a dézmát megtagadta, a magyarságtól a földeket elvevén, az általa betelepített oláhoknak adta, magyar lakóinak egy része kiköltözött* . Udvarháza 1603-ban említtetik először.
{95.} 1631-ben megerősített várkastélya van. 1740 tájt építtette gr. Lázár János, ki egy könyvet is írt e czím alatt: "Versus Mnemonici ad ductum Ausonii Popmae Frisii." Szeben, 1769. 8. r.* az újabb ideig görög "P" betű alakra még 1847-ben is romjaiban fennálló emeletes kastélyt, délnek néző homlokzattal s előtte kőkarzatos úgynevezett scala romanaval, a rettegi út ép alája vezetett, utóbb pedig háta megé került mostani helyére s ez által csodált értékéből sokat veszített. Hatalmas termeiben, megye főispánja lévén, gyakran ülésezett a megye, pinczéi börtönül szolgáltak. 1847-ben fekete falait s alatta elhagyott pinczéit alvilági szellemekkel hitték a vidék lakói megtöltve s borzalommal kerülték, mesésebbnél mesésebb tragoediákat fűzve hozzá.*
Mostani díszes kastélyát gr. Kornis Miklós építtette a régi helyére az 1870-es évek elején.
1668 ápr. 21, 1670 ápr. 1, 1678 május 23, 1711 decz. 31, 1713 aug. 4, 1716 febr. 26, 1726 jun. 4, 1728 nov. 16, 1740 márcz. 16, jul. 26, decz. 12, 1742 febr. 12, május 4-én megyei közgyűlések színhelye; 1725 jul. 18, 1728 nov. 16. és 1826 aug. 21-én megyei derék törvénykezéseket itt tartották.*
A baczai ev. ref. egyházközség 1622-ben* a csicsó-mihályfalvinak leányegyháza. A pap számára feles számú szántó és kaszálói vannak, melyből egy darabot Mézes András bir. 1643-ban* 25 drb szántót és kaszálót jegyeztek fel, melyeket egykor végrendeletileg hagytak az ekklezsia számára. Kőtemploma mellett egyetlen harang, pap- és iskolaház nélkül.
1710 körül* lett anyaegyházzá. 1754-ben kőtemploma meg van újítva s ezzel szemben a papilak, melynek telkét br. Lázár György akkor ajándékozta, midőn az egyházközség leányegyházból anyaegyházzá lett. 1884. évi Erd. Ev. ref. Névkönyv szerint 1760 május 1-től Szent-Margitáról ide helyezett Hari József papja a templomot romlott állapotban találta s nagy tevékenységet fejtett ki annak kijavítása s főleg toronynyal való ellátás és felépítésében. 1769 április 21-én tették le a torony alapját* s hosszú küzdelem után az egyháztagok s főleg gr. Lázár János hozzájárulásával, ki 300 frtot adott s az udvarnál ennek épithetését nagynehezen megnyerhette. 1742-ben készült el, melyre egy szegény bujdosó, kenyerét cséplésével kereső Nagy Márton 28 denárt adott a többek közt s Hari József pap lelkes buzgalmát hirdeti ma is.
{96.} Szájhagyomány szerint a róm. katholikusok Hari papsága idején elhatározták, hogy húsvét napon a templomban levő reformátusokat fegyveresen megtámadják, a templomot tőlük erővel elveszik. Hari értesülve a tervről, a hiveket összegyüjté s megállapodának abban, hogy a húsvéti istentisztelet alkalmával mindenki elrejtett fegyverrel jelenjék meg. Maga a pap is kovás pisztolylyal látta el magát. Úrvacsora alatt a katholikusok megtámadták a reformátusokat, kik a támadókat megfutamitották, mire az úrvacsora kiszolgáltattatott.
Úrasztali készletei 1693-ban: Vigh János és Fejér István ónkannát és tányért, Kassay István, 1714. és 1745-ben Fejér Istvánné Homonnai Kis Anna több díszes abroszt, térítőt és keszkenőt, Bányai Lőrinczné szintén fehérneműt ajándékozott. Kgy keresztelő önkannája 1684. évből való. Gr. Lázár József ajándékozott egy gazdagon aranyozott ezüst borosztó poharat 1767-ben.
1768-ban gróf Lázár János Öntetett az 1749-ben készült harang mellé egy nagyobbat.
1772-ben Fejér János ajtót készíttetett a templomra. Kis Kata úr-asztalát és egy klenodiumokat tartó ládát csináltatott.*
1831-beli feljegyzés szerint* kőtornyában két harang van s egy temetője. Jegyzőkönyve 1764 óta. Egy igen virágos és kigyóbőr színű földpohár: Sol qoat, Dei dy Supers im 1590. e. sz. hod szein. Fedelén E. C. H. M. K. felirattal. Nagy Róza Salak Ferenczné is úrasztalára fehérneműt ajándékozott.
1754-ben* van 30 drb szántója 70 1/2 köböl vetésre való, 7 darab rétjén 21 szekér széna terem.
1808-beli* feljegyzés szerint a pap részére a gr. Lázár János idejéig, ki a magyarlakta telkekre oláhokat telepitett s a földeket ezeknek adván, dézmát róla a ref. egyháznak nem adnak. E mellett 1821-ben* gr. Lázár István az egyház birtokából 37 drbot foglalt el.
1821-beli feljegyzés szerint* gr. Teleki Juliánná az itteni ev. ref. egyház papja fizetése pótlására 500 frt alapítványt tett még 1811-ben. Ferenczi József szolgabiró 1821-ben* úrasztalára való szent eszközöket adományozott.
1884-ben van magtáralapja s 32 hold 1532  öl fekvősége.

Hari {97.} József a templom- és toronyépittető 37 éves papsága után 1797-ben halt meg. Erdélyi Dániel 1707. László József 1821. Gellért Albert 1823-ig. Salak Ferencz 1824. Diószegi Lajos 1862-1875. Osváth Gyula 1875-97. Baló Bálint 1898-.
Iskolájának alapját a Baczából Gyalakutára költözött gróf Lázár József vetette meg, ki Salak Ferencz kérésére, pártoltatva kapjoni Mezei Pál gazdatiszttől is, az innen eltávozott lovas katonaság számára épített hadnagyi szállást tanitói lakás és iskolahelyiségül ajándékozta, ezen kivül 5 drb szántót és kaszálót bocsátott a tanitó használatára. A tanitó és iskola fűtésére évente 3 öl fát, melyet utóbb megtagadtak, ajándékozott s így létesült 1840-ben. Ezt megelőzőleg Hari Jonathán, a József baczai pap fia, főkormányszéki írnok a tanitó fizetésének pótlására 1841-beli feljegyzés szerint 200 ezüst forint alapítványt tett.*
1868-ban* van 266 ev. ref. lélek, ebből 135 férfi. 1887-ben 327 a lélekszám.
Gr. Lázár János fia János Bécsben 1776 nov. 18-án katholikussá lévén, azonnal itteni kastélyának alsó, keleti részébe kápolnát állittatott s ezt szent eszközökkel felszerelte. E házi kápolna az 1840-es évek elején megszűnt. Papja 1791 tájt Molduvány Gergely minorita szerzetes.
A gör. katholikusoknak Szent Archangyal tiszteletére szentelt fa-templomuk van, melynek felépítését s papi földekkel való ellátását gróf Lázár Jánosnak köszönhetik, jelenleg a retteginek filiája. Iskolája 1852-ben keletkezett,
Állami iskolája 1894-ben engedélyeztetett s 1896-ban nyilt meg, tanitója Benedek Antal,
Tartománya 1570-ben* Bacza, Cs.-Mihályfalva, Oláh-Nyires, Egres.
1606-ban* Oláh v. Felső-Orbó egészen.
1650-ben és 58-ban* Horgospatak, Kozárvár, Szt-Margita részbirtokok, Bacza, Cs.-Mihályfalva és Felső-Orbó egészen.
Határa két fordulóra van osztva, 1703 körül* fele téren fekszik és jó, a másik déli oldalon, sovány, agyagos és nehezen mívelhető, közép termésű évben őszi és tavaszi másfél szemet ereszt. 1820-ban* az első osztályba soroztatott.
1750-ben* adó alatt volt: 860, 1822-ben 1403 vékányi szántója, ebből 681 őszbúza, 6 rozs, 200 véka vetést pedig tavaszi alá használt. Tengeri és köles termése 16 és 5/6 vékát tett. Csak fordulónként használható {98.} kaszálója 112 és 1/2 1822-ben 287 szekérnyi, szőlője 325, 1822-ben pedig 286 vedernyi volt, a mikor a must vedre 15 krajczár. Az urasági szőlő nagy kiterjedésű és jó bort terem.
A közönségnek erdeje nincs, fát a lábfalviaktól szoktak pénzen és gabonán szerezni, a birtokosnak is kevés, az is fiatal, legelője szűk.
Jövedelmét képezte 1750-beli összeírás szerint a malomkövek szállitása s evvel való kereskedés.
1760 után itt tanyázott lovas katonaság,* de az 1830-as években Rettegre telepitett lószedő intézet felállitása folytán megszűnt.
Van két hajósmalma a Nagy-Szamoson, ugyanennyi kővel, egy korcsmája s egy pálinkafőző üstje.
Káposztája minden időben bőven terem.
Jobbágy-szolgálmányok: 1552-ben* a rendes szolgálaton kivül a várbeli tisztek részére adtak hat fejős tehenet 8 frt értékben, 11 bárányt, melynek ára 1 frt és 76 denár, egy 2 frt értékű szalonnát, 100 csirkét, megért 2 frtot, 37 libát 2 frt 34 denár értékben, 16 köböl zabot 5 frt 13 denár árút; 26 köböl zabot pedig Rettegre szállitottak, melynek értéke 8 frt 66 denár, hasonlóképen 2 köböl gabonát melynek értéke 1 frt 60 denár. A rettegi tisztnek 10 köböl zabot 3 frt 33 den. értékben, Bank Pál emberének Kun Orbánnak három személy részére való bort adtak egy félévig, a minek pénzértéke 28 frt, neki és szolgájának naponként négy ízben ételt és élelmi szereket kellett adniok, a minek értéke 28 frt, lovai számára 30 köböl zabot, értéke 10 frt és szénát, ezen kivül a rétjüket lovaival legeltette s ez által nekik 25 frt kárt okozott. Reá kényszeritette, hogy lovait a réten őrizzék és ha valaki különböző ügyes-bajos dolga miatt nem jelent meg vagy megjelenni nem akart a lovak felvigyázására, büntette.
